Chalk Point Generation Station, situated in Aquasco, Maryland, is a key power generation facility with a total capacity of approximately 1,618 MW. The station features a diverse lineup of nine generating units, including seven gas turbines and two steam turbines. This strategic configuration enhances efficiency and reliability, ensuring the station effectively meets regional energy demands.

Opportunity Summary

The Combustion Turbine (CT) Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of combustion turbines, ensuring they operate efficiently, safely, and within prescribed parameters. By conducting regular inspections, implementing performance optimization strategies, and utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, the Supervisor will proactively address potential issues and maximize turbine performance. Additionally, the Supervisor will manage both predictive and preventative maintenance programs, maintain detailed records, and provide comprehensive training to ensure high morale and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Your scope of responsibility as CT Supervisor will include the following primary functions:

  • Oversee the daily operations of combustion turbines, ensuring they operate within prescribed parameters for efficiency, output, and safety.
  • Ensure optimal electrical output is maintained according to management, contractual, and dispatch requirements, adjusting as necessary for efficient performance.
  • Monitor plant conditions, report abnormalities or emergencies to management, and take corrective actions as directed.
  • Conduct regular inspections and performance tests on combustion turbines, identifying and addressing potential issues before they lead to operational disruptions.
  • Implement and monitor performance optimization strategies, including tuning and calibration adjustments to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and integrate advanced diagnostic tools for real-time monitoring and analysis of turbine performance.
  • Develop and implement predictive and preventative maintenance strategies, leveraging data analysis and condition monitoring tools to foresee and mitigate potential equipment failures.
  • Review and update the preventative maintenance schedule regularly, ensuring critical components are serviced within recommended intervals to maintain reliability and performance.
  • Manage work orders and CMMS, including issuance, scheduling, delegation, execution, completion, and backlog tracking, and provide direction to personnel on all maintenance activities.
  • Oversee warehouse inventory management, ensuring the availability of critical spare parts and supplies, and collaborate with the purchasing department to procure equipment and materials efficiently.
  • Oversee the water chemistry program, including testing, inspections, and maintenance, and provide training and guidance to personnel to ensure adherence to safety protocols and PPE usage.
  • Foster a positive work environment, maintaining high morale and motivation among operations and maintenance teams.
  • Report to management and collaborate with Area and Maintenance Managers to ensure alignment with operational goals and completion of assigned tasks.
  • Maintain databases for operational, maintenance, safety, and environmental work requests, ensuring compliance with contracts and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise the upkeep of plant logs and records, including the Operators Daily Site Logbook, Lock Out and Tag Out (LOTO) Logbook, and Jumper Logbook, ensuring accurate and chronological logging of operational events.
  • Ensure plant manuals are current, implement Management of Change processes for procedural revisions, and communicate updates electronically to all employees.
  • Oversee and schedule general training for all employees, maintaining training manuals and documenting completed training in the CMMS.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

  • Lead these activities in accordance with any rules, requirements, or guidance established within your business unit, group, or division.
  • Involve all NAES teammates in these activities.
  • Analyze results, write work orders, and provide training and education to eliminate hazards, address at-risk behavior, and meet company regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety observation tours of high-risk activities (e.g., confined space) to verify that employees are following safe practices, company procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Hold one-on-one sessions with direct reports to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations, and coach safe behaviors.
  • Respond to all safety-related incidents, including injuries, incidents, and near misses; write a report explaining what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective actions based on established business unit or division practices. Follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are taken.

Working Relationships

The CT Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager and receives general direction from other plant Management. This role may involve supervising and overseeing some Operations and Maintenance personnel, as well as coordinating with all plant personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The CT Supervisor works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.

Compensation

This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $122,000 to $155,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Professional Expertise & Qualifications

We are looking for a results-oriented supervisor with experience in the operations and maintenance of power generating facilities, coupled with a track record of leadership, career development, and operational success.

  • An Associate degree in Plant, Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Technology, or a related field is preferred, providing a strong foundation for understanding the technical aspects of power plant operations and management. Equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance or instrumentation and control is also valuable, and relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proven experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of power generation systems, including combustion turbines and associated mechanical, electrical, and control equipment.
  • Expertise in safety and hazard mitigation within power plant environments, including flammability, leak detection, ventilation requirements, and applicable safety codes (e.g., NFPA, OSHA).
  • Emergency response and incident command capability, with experience leading coordinated responses to plant incidents, including isolation, fire suppression interface, and communication with first responders.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing predictive and preventative maintenance strategies, utilizing tools such as vibration analysis, thermography, and advanced diagnostic systems.
  • Ability to use real-time monitoring and data analysis to optimize turbine and plant system performance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory compliance, including federal, state, and local permitting; environmental regulations; process safety management standards; inspection processes; and reporting requirements relevant to power generation operations.
  • Experience in managing work orders, scheduling maintenance activities, and maintaining accurate operational and safety records using CMMS software.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate operations and maintenance teams, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
