Job Summary
Facilities maintenance/skilled craft work at the supervisor level in planning, directing, coordinating, overseeing, and monitoring the preparation and application of paint to exterior and interior surfaces. Performs journeyman level work in painting/refinishing wood, masonry and other interior and exterior surfaces. Schedules, trains, assigns, monitors, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned personnel. This class lies above that of Painter Lead Worker, Painter, Glazier, Painter/Glazier, and Plasterer/Drywall Finisher/Ceramic & Porcelain Tile Mechanic and below that of Painter Foreperson.
Essential Functions
1. Receives work orders and coordinates assigned employees, equipment and materials required per job site. Performs painting duties as needed.
2. Schedules, assigns, monitors, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned employees. Administers discipline as needed.
3. Confers with school principals and others concerning work projects and responds to questions and minor complaints.
4. Prepares cost estimates and fills out work orders and purchase orders for required materials, supplies and equipment.
5. Maintains personnel records including attendance, supplies, equipment used on jobs, and details of work performed; and inventory records concerning assigned trucks and equipment.
6.Oversees and performs surface preparation and preventive maintenance according to assigned schedules or when directed, i.e., repainting faded walls, filling cracks and holes, sanding and repainting peeling areas.
7. Performs journeyman level work painting wood, masonry and other interior and exterior surfaces. Applies mediums including, but not necessarily limited to, glazes, primers, stains, sealers, and varnishes.
8. Provides training and instruction to painting trades work personnel in use, safe operation, proper cleaning, and maintenance of various hand-held manual, electrical and gas powered tools and equipment, i.e., mixers, sprayers, rollers, caulking guns, scrapers, sand blasters, pressure washers, and vehicles.
9. Inspects job sites for the purpose of determining color mixing and matching needs, quantities of materials required per work orders, and adherence to work orders and specifications.
10. Operates a motor vehicle in performance of duties.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Promotional Requirements: All permanent employees who have served for one (1) year in the class of Painter Lead Worker, Painter, Glazier, Painter/Glazier, and/or Plasterer/Drywall Finisher/Ceramic & Porcelain Tile Mechanic may apply.
Licensing:
A valid Florida Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. Depending on assignment, a valid Florida Class D Driver's License may be required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the techniques, methods, practices and procedures, materials, tools and practices of the painting, plastering, drywall finishing, and ceramic or porcelain tile installation trades used in planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the preparation and application of paint to exterior and interior surfaces
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the painting trade
- Knowledge of supervisory techniques and practices
- Knowledge of proper repairs to walls, and applications of paints, sealers and stains to interior and exterior of buildings, furniture and equipment
- Knowledge of and ability to rig and erect scaffolding
- Knowledge of Civil Service and Personnel Rules and Regulations, School Board Policy and Maintenance bargaining agreements
- Strong skills in care and use of materials, tools, and equipment used in plaster/drywall/ ceramic and porcelain tile work
- Strong mathematical skills in addition, subtraction multiplication, division, measuring angles and distances
- Basic oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills
- Basic word processing and spreadsheet software skills
- Ability to operate safely and efficiently all types of pressure cleaning and blast cleaning equipment common to the painting trade
- Ability to apply waterproofing, caulking and other compounds to buildings, walls and floors
- Ability to repair and finish plastered services, finish drywall, and install ceramic or porcelain tile
- Ability to prepare materials lists, make simple field drawings, keep simple records, and maintain appropriate paperwork
- Ability to use industry accepted tools and equipment of the painting trade such as brushes, rollers, spray equipment and other assorted hand tools
- Ability to plan, assign and supervise journeyman in this class in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale
- Ability to learn and use the computerized maintenance management information system used by Facilities Maintenance, Plant Services
- Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions, job orders, policies, rules and regulations, and job-related materials
- Ability to make estimates of time and materials
- Ability to train, schedule, assign, monitor, review, and evaluate the work of subordinates
- Ability to prepare, maintain, and review records and reports
- Ability to resolve complaints and personnel-related problems and issues
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
