Who are we looking for?

GHD is looking for a Graduate Engineer to join our Maritime and Coastal (M&C) practice in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will primarily assist with design and analysis of several waterfront projects throughout the US. In this role you will research, design, and construct buildings and structures that are safe and capable of withstanding the elements to which they will be exposed, as well as improving the structural integrity of existing buildings or constructs.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Monitor Construction Works: Help monitor and oversee the delivery of works to ensure that construction, maintenance, or improvement works are delivered in accordance with quality, cost, and time requirements.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collate and analyze data using preset tools, methods, and formats. Involves working independently.
  • Engineering Solutions Design: Contribute to the development of, and implement feasibility testing of, proposed engineering solutions to provide feedback and data to validate the design.
  • Engineering Standards Specification: Carry out a range of activities under the guidance of more senior colleagues to support the drafting of engineering standards and specifications and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards.
  • Technical Developments Recommendation: Research and suggest technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users needs.
  • Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Support technical troubleshooting efforts, aiding in the quick and accurate identification, analysis, and resolution of technical issues with equipment and experiments.
  • Project Management: Support others by carrying out a range of project management activities.
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Help senior colleagues manage client and customer relationships by using relevant sales or client systems.
  • Working under the supervision of an experienced professional engineer on diverse Maritime & Coastal and Transportation design and analysis projects.
  • Assisting with the design of waterfront infrastructure and facilities for port, federal, private, and municipal clients such and related infrastructure.
  • Providing calculations, developing drawings and/or sketches.
  • Writing technical reports summarizing design and/or findings of structural condition assessment.
  • Delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Maintaining open communication with project team members.

What you will bring to the Team

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level in civil engineering with a structural focus from an accredited university. Masters degree is preferred.
  • Current EIT Certification with ability to obtain Texas PE after employment

Experience

  • General Experience: 0 to 2 years of experience.
  • Previous internship related to the industry and understanding of marine design a plus.
  • Working knowledge of engineering codes and guidelines such as IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360 etc.
  • Experience in the Microsoft office suite, Mathcad, Autodesk suite 2016 or newer (Civil 3d/Revit)
  • Ability to assist with condition assessment and field investigation.
