JOB TITLE: Electrical Inspector - General

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB:
This position involves the on-site inspection of industrial, commercial, and residential construction and alteration for compliance with electrical code requirements. Supervision is received from the Building Official and/or Director of Planning and Development.
DUTIES ND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in examining plans and specifications for building construction, alterations, and repairs for compliance with electrical code requirements.
- Inspect building sites while construction is in process to ensure compliance with appropriate code, ordinances, and regulations.
- Prepare reports of inspections showing the type of buildings or facilities inspected, location of the property and recommendations for issuance of occupancy permits.
- Communicate with property owners, contractors, and the general public.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
- Communicate with the public in a clear, polite, understandable, and effective manner.
- Perform inspections of building(s), including but not limited to, climbing stairs, climbing on to roofs, crawling in building crawl space areas, and visually viewing the property and/or building.
- Visually review blue prints, plans and written specification manuals.
- Perform job functions in outside weather conditions.
- Produce reports utilizing modern office equipment.
- Work overtime or at hours other than regular office hours as required.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- High School graduate or GED supplemented by at least eight years of work experience in the design and installation of residential, commercial, and industrial wiring systems installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
- Certification as a General Electrical Inspector by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining, and operating a variety of electrical installations, equipment and appliances.
- Considerable knowledge of possible defects and faults in electrical wiring and appliances, standard testing devices, and effective corrective measures.
- Knowledge of city ordinances related to electrical appliances and installations.
- Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints quickly and accurately, and to compare them with construction in different stages of completeness.
- Neat in appearance, good moral character, and not convicted of a felony crime.
- Ability to read and communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate and deal effectively with builders, owners, contractors, and the general public.
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence, utilizing modern office equipment.
- Possess a valid Kentucky Driver's License.
- Ability to hear and communicate clearly via telephone and two-way radio.
- Physically capable of performing essential job functions.
