YOUR IMPACT
You'll be responsible for:
- Having strong attention to detail to inspect industrial, commercial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and applicable state and Federal codes.
- Inspecting work at each of the required stages of completion and order corrective action if necessary.
- Evaluating construction materials and ensuring correct applications.
- Meeting with various members of the community to advise on and interpret codes.
- Supporting plan review staff and permit technicians in plan processing and issuing permits.

Building Inspector I: $4,733 - $6,384 per month
Building Inspector II: $5,229 - $7,055 per month

ARE YOU QUALIFIED
Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Building Inspector I/II. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of:
Building Inspector I
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of increasing responsible experience in one or more of the building trades, construction or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities. An Associate's degree in construction technology is highly desirable.
Building Inspector II
In addition to the above, one to two years of experience and specialized training in building code enforcement and supervision. Experience with a public agency is highly desirable.
License or Certificate:
Building Inspector I
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C or Class 3 California Driver's License, and have a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification from the International Code Council (ICC) as a Residential Building Inspector within six months of employment and certification from the ICC as a Commercial Building Inspector within one year of employment is required.
Building Inspector II
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C or Class 3 California Driver's License, and have a satisfactory driving record.
Certification from the ICC as a Residential Building Inspector is required. Certification from the ICC as a Commercial Building Inspector is required.
Certifications that provide the equivalent status as the two ICC certifications required above and accepted as such by the ICC are acceptable with the approval of the Building Official.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the California Adopted Model Codes and related federal and state laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; building tools and material; methods of building construction; accepted safety methods; principles and techniques of building inspection. The ideal candidate will have the ability to perform all inspections effectively on residential, commercial and industrial , including electrical installations and fire sprinkler systems such as 13-D, 13-R and 13 systems. Ability to interpret and explain building plans, blueprints, specifications and building codes; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; work effectively in the absence of supervision; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
