BASIC FUNCTIONS:Serves in a lead capacity for the electrical crew: performs journey-level electrical work involving the repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical systems and equipment; establishes priorities; inspects and directs the work of subordinate employees, computes time and material costs; performs on-site surveys of work to be performed, estimates man hours and orders materials; provides training and instruction to electricians; prepares verbal and written reports; and assists in the development of bid specifications.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:KNOWLEDGE OF:Tools, materials and skills of the electrical trade.Federal, state and local regulations pertaining to electrical standards and related codes, including the National Electrical Code and Electrical Safety Orders.Telecommunication Industry Association Standards (TIA).Operation, maintenance and repair of motors, starters and controls.Safety practices and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade.Design, construction, installation and maintenance of electrical apparatus and equipment.Technical aspects of field of specialty.ABILITY TO:Perform journey-level electrical work involving the repair, alteration, construction, installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical systems and equipment.Install, terminate and test Cat 5E, single mode, multi-mode fiberoptic cable.Plan the layout, assembly, installation, testing and repair of electrical systems.Read and interpret blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications.Make sketches and diagrams of electrical work and make accurate job estimates of materials and labor.Plan and direct the work of other employees.Work effectively with supervisors, school personnel, and others.Apply shop math accurately and correctly.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and increasingly responsible journey-level experience in electrical installation, alteration and repair work.REQUIRED DOCUMENTSThe following MUST be attached to application on or before the deadline:

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree or Higher Education DegreeSupplemented by completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and increasingly responsible journey-level experience in electrical installation, alteration and repair work. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS / CERTIFICATESThe successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination. Cost of the exam will be borne by the District. A pre-employment drug screening will also be administered. Valid California driver's licenseIf selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B. tested and fingerprinted. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview.
