POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Structural Engineer your roles and responsibilities will include:
"
Structural Design & Analysis:
Perform detailed structural analysis and design for a variety of building types, including residential, commercial, and industrial structures. This involves using specialized software to model, analyze, and optimize designs for efficiency and safety.
"
Code Compliance:
Ensure all designs and calculations comply with relevant building codes, industry standards, and regulations (e.g., IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC). Stay current on code updates and new engineering practices.
"
Collaboration & Coordination:
Work closely with architects, project managers, and other engineers (mechanical, electrical) to integrate structural designs seamlessly into overall building plans.
"
Drafting & Documentation:
Prepare and review detailed structural drawings, specifications, and reports. This includes creating plans for foundations, frames, roofs, and other structural components.
"
Site Support & Problem-Solving:
Provide technical support during the construction phase. This may involve visiting job sites to inspect progress, address on-site issues, and propose solutions to unexpected challenges.
"
Material Selection:
Advise on the appropriate use of construction materials, such as steel, concrete, timber, and masonry, considering their properties, cost, and environmental impact.
QUALIFICATIONS
Most importantly, you need to be a passionate Structural Engineer who enjoys his work and is considered to be one of the best within your organization. The ideal Structural Engineer would be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:
" A minimum of 2-4 years of professional experience in structural engineering, with a focus on building construction projects.
" Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, RISA-3D) and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
" Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is essential.
" Strong understanding of structural mechanics, material properties, and construction methods.
