The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment used in our metal recycling operations. This includes forklifts, skid steers, loaders, cranes, shears, material handlers, and other hydraulic machinery. The ideal candidate will have experience in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment used in metal recycling

Perform routine and preventative maintenance on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.

Troubleshoot equipment failures and malfunctions to minimize downtime.

Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical diagrams, and schematics.

Operate welding and fabrication tools as needed for repairs and modifications.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts inventory.

Ensure all work complies with company policies, OSHA standards, and safety protocols.

Respond to urgent breakdowns and perform on-site repairs when necessary.

Requirements

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED; technical certification in diesel mechanics or related field preferred but not required.

Proven experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic; experience in the recycling or scrap industry is a plus.

Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and industrial electrical components.

Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

Strong attention to detail and ability to solve mechanical issues efficiently.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physically capable of lifting heavy parts up to 50lbs and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred Skills: Hydraulic, automotive/diesel, welding, and electrical experience. Experience/knowledge of Baler machine a plus. Equipment Maintenance, Technical Understanding, Basic Safety, Power Tools, Attention to Detail, Flexibility, Dependable.
