SUMMARY:

This position will provide Safety leadership and strategic direction by leading the Tyson plant located at the South Hutchinson and working closely with the Hutchinson location. The Safety Manager will provide Safety leadership and strategic direction by leading the teams in continuous safety improvement efforts. As an integral member of the Plant Management Team, the Safety Manager will support and advise site management regarding the Safety Management system. Formulate a proactive, local Safety strategy that drives the facilities to become sustainable, healthy, and safe operationally. Participate in developing a vision for Safety, which includes continual enhancement of established programs and consistent implementation of new programs within a team environment. The successful candidate will be involved in the effort to eliminate, prevent, or reduce the occurrence of safety, health, and medical issues. The candidate will also facilitate the development and maintenance of behaviors, attitudes and a safety culture that supports the goals and behaviors and actions of Tyson Foods.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a change agent to accelerate best practice sharing within the complex (both facilities).

Serve as the sites representative for Health and Safety.

Directs the safety programs, on site.

Recommends the design and implementation of new programs to minimize company losses due to accidents.

Measures effectiveness of programs for the facilities.

Lead the compliance with OSHA regulations and OSHA/Tyson Foods Ergonomic program.

Inspect machinery, equipment and working conditions to ensure compliance with OSHA; Maintain OSHA file and support documents for the facilities.

Accompanies OSHA inspector on any complex inspections.

Regularly inspects and reviews plants to assure compliance of all permits, operation, and equipment with state and federal regulations.

Reports any potential violations and recommends corrections as needed.

Analyzes accident statistics to establish necessary precautions and changes needed for plant safety.

Communicates safety policy and procedure changes to management personnel at the facilities.

Responsible for ensuring that all health & safety policies, procedures, and practices at the facilities are reviewed on an annual basis, or as changes and updates are required by practices or regulation and are rolled-out in a timely manner.

Conducts safety inspections and procedural audits in the field and have the skills, knowledge, and ability to take immediate corrective action if required.

Reviews all safety areas to review policies, determine causes, identify corrective actions, and conducts training in areas, such as, ergonomics, emergency response team, lockout/tag out, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment.

Investigates all safety related incidents, reviews incident reports and completes necessary reports for insurance carrier, risk management system and corporate safety office.

Manage and Supervise personnel directly reporting to the Complex Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelors degree in safety, Engineering or Industrial Technology or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Experience: 3 plus years of progressive experience in environment safety and sustainability management preferred. Strong knowledge of safety regulations OSHA hazard communications accident investigation and safety training methods. Knowledge of industry best practice regarding safety and environmental approaches with PSM RMP safety practices.

Computer Skills: Standard MS computer skills, Excel, Word, Power Point, Power BI.

Communication Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. Strong written and verbal communication.

Special Skills: Ability to write daily safety training material for review by the management to the Team Members daily.

Travel: 1-2 potential trips per year.
