Position Summary:
The Project Engineer is responsible to take ownership of the structures segment P&L and ensure that of heavy civil construction project segments from initial budget through project closeout. Among many important activities, it is most important that projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget, while maintaining positive communication with the Owner's representative. The position of a Project Engineer is consistently thinking about ways to accelerate job, decrease costs, increase markups, save indirect costs, and take advantage of situations to increase profits for multiple projects.
Job Duties
Responsible for all technical work pertaining to solving geotechnical design and construction problems (including review of design calculations and reassessment of as-built conditions).
Provide optimum technical recommendations to geotechnical field challenges encountered during the construction, including but not limited to support of temporary excavations, foundations, soil improvement, temporary and permanent pavement design, temporary and permanent retaining walls, etc.
Analyze and adjust construction phasing (MOT) to improve constructability with a special emphasis in optimizing number of phases, improving safety for both the public and workers reducing temporary retaining walls and support of excavations.
Propose and analyze project optimizations to help keeping the project within budget and schedule.
Discuss with the Client and with the Designers specialists on specialized items. Lead the collaborative efforts with all the parties to solve geotechnical issues, related design and/or construction issues (non-conformance reports).
Ensure all geotechnical designs are in accordance with the Ferrovial Groups standards and Contract requirements.
Provide technical input to the Risk matrix, as well as to other documents to be internally developed by Ferrovial
Review the work of all geotechnical engineers and outside consultants engaged in the project development during design and construction phases.
Ensure that geotechnical inputs to the BOQ are precise, back-up is clearly explained, and there are no relevant concepts missing. Assist other departments when necessary to explain and address the rationale or fundamentals for such inputs.
Negotiate engineering fees, scope of works and other related contractual issues with the Consultants.
Other duties as applicable and required by the Construction Technical Office/Design Manager.
