CLASS TITLE: LOCKSMITH/CARPENTER

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the repair, adjustment and changing keyed and combination locks and hardware in all district schools; and performs related work as required.

Work Length: 8 hours per day

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Checks and repairs door locks and door closures
• Dismantles and rebuilds various types of locks and changes lock combinations
• Requisitions or buys new parts, extra locks and material for making repairs
• Installs door holders, stops, closers and various types of panic devices
• Does master-keying
• Checks lockers for broken locks, loose bolts, broken catches and metal damages and makes necessary repairs
• Repairs all door hardware, hydraulic cylinders, window openers and steel lockers
• Does miscellaneous maintenance and repair work on doors and frames
• Assists in a variety of skilled crafts duties
• May train new employees and helpers

DESIRABLE QUALIFICAITONS:

Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of formal locksmith training; four years of progressively responsible experience in locksmith work.

Knowledge of:

• The methods, practices and tools used in the repair and maintenance of locks
• Key making and master keying practices

Skill in:

• The use of locksmith tools and equipment

Ability to:

• Keep records
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
