Mid-Level Interior Architect / Designer Wanted for Washington, DC Architecture and Firm

We are seeking a detail-oriented Mid-Level Interior Architect/Designer to join our established DC-area practice. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex retail, restaurant, and commercial projects while developing expertise in project delivery, code compliance, and construction administration.

Our boutique architecture firm specializes in retail, restaurant, and commercial design throughout the Washington, DC region. We maintain long-term relationships with national clients and local businesses, delivering projects from initial feasibility studies through design, construction, and occupancy. Our work requires rigorous attention to regulatory requirements, budget management, and schedule coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate project phases from programming through construction administration, ensuring deliverables meet schedule and budget requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive construction documents, specifications, and details in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Navigate zoning requirements, building codes, and permit processes for commercial and mixed-use developments.
  • Serve as primary project contact, managing client communications and project expectations.
  • Conduct site visits, review submittals, process RFIs, and coordinate with contractors to ensure design intent is realized.
  • Perform thorough reviews of drawings and specifications to maintain project standards and minimize construction issues.
  • Manage relationships with consultants, contractors, and suppliers throughout project lifecycle.

Preferred Experience:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in commercial, retail, or restaurant design. Mixed-used development and ground-floor retail planning experience will also be considered.
  • Professional license or active pursuit of licensure.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and technical documentation standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with construction administration and permit processes.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility requirements, building codes, and zoning regulations.
  • Experience coordinating with MEP consultants and structural engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Interior Design (Master's or 5-year degree preferred for Architecture candidates).
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship need.
