This position is located within the Maintenance and Repair Unit, Engineering Section of the Facilities Management Service Line at the LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI. The Electrical Worker performs maintenance, repair, and installation of minor electrical equipment and lighting systems throughout the medical center. Physical Effort and Work Conditions: Continuous eye-hand coordination is necessary and in most of the duties, high concentration and mental application is required in lining and adjusting controls. The person in the position is required to do strenuous work such as carrying heavy tools, material, and equipment up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects in excess of 40 pounds with assistance of another person or mechanical assistance.
Most work is performed inside buildings, usually adequately lights, heated, ventilated, or cooled. Occasionally work may be performed in very cold, hot, or unventilated areas or outside. Exposure to lubricants and other chemicals and fumes is common, as well as the ever-present hazards of electrical shock and burns, and the physical hazards of electro-mechanical equipment. Exposure to radiation and contaminated or infectious biological hazards may occur. Required to crawl into tight spaces, and work great heights on ladders, scaffolds, and platforms at heights up to 18 feet above ground, in the pursuit of the work. Must be capable of standing, bending, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and in general, have use of limbs.

Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
