Introduction

The Distribution Electric Field Engineer will support the Electric Distribution Field Engineering team in designing and managing projects related to new business, system improvements, public improvement , and modernization of the electric distribution network. This role requires technical expertise , project management skills, and a commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective power solutions. The engineer will collaborate across departments and provide technical guidance to ensure high-quality outcomes .

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, estimate, design, and manage complex electric distribution line projects in accordance with company standards, engineering best practices, and applicable codes.

  • Prepare detailed drawings, permits, easements, material estimates, and all necessary documentation for project execution.

  • Oversee projects from inception to completion, providing engineering direction throughout the lifecycle.

  • Provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of company and customer distribution lines.

  • Ensure engineering methods and procedures align with current safety standards and industry best practices.

  • Support business objectives through effective planning, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.

  • Foster positive relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure transparency and collaboration.

  • Evaluate feedback from operations teams to improve future designs and engineering processes.

  • Participate in storm restoration and emergency response efforts.

  • Coordinate with external agencies and regulatory bodies such as INDOT, REMC, FERC, NERC, and MISO.

  • Valid driver's license

Qualifications

Associate Engineer

Required for Selection:

Education

  • A graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university program with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology

Knowledge/Experience

  • 0-12 months of relevant job experience

  • Valid driver's license

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in team environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills .

  • General engineering knowledge of statics, material strengths, and basic power system operation

  • Basic understanding of NESC codes and their applications - preferred

  • Ability to complete cost estimates and order project material

  • Ability to apply basic electrical and civil engineering principles and to recommend sound Electric Line project solutions

  • Ability to read and interpret GIS and civil infrastructure design drawings for public improvement projects

  • Ability to apply established engineering procedures

  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

  • Customer service focused and driven.

Engineer 1

Required for Selection:

Education

  • A graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university program with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology

Knowledge/Experience

  • 1 + years of relevant job experience

  • General engineering knowledge of statics, material strengths, and basic power system operation

  • Basic understanding of NESC codes and their applications - preferred

  • Ability to complete cost estimates and order project material under close supervision

  • Ability to apply basic electrical and civil engineering principles and to understand sound Electric Line project solutions

  • Ability to read and interpret GIS and civil infrastructure design drawings for public improvement projects

  • Ability to use established procedures and work under immediate supervision

  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

  • Valid driver's license
