Alamo Group Inc.is currently accepting applications to fill the position of Equipment Mechanic at its location in Huntsville, Alabama.
Under general supervision, the Equipment Mechanic collaborates with Alamo Group Advanced Technology Center Engineers and Alamo Group business unit Engineers to assist with the design and build of advanced vehicle technology to include testing fixtures and prototypes. May involve routine to moderately complex metal fabrication, welding, and assembly techniques using knowledge gained from experience. May also involve operating equipment to verify performance or design specifications.
The Equipment Mechanic will:
- Remove repair and install systems typically found on heavy vehicles such as engines, transmissions, axles, harnesses, cabs, and body builder products.
- Remove repair and install systems typically found on hybrid/electric vehicles such as motors, battery packs, generators, inverters, power distribution, auxiliary drives, axles, harnesses,
- Build, repair and modify typical vegetation management equipment such as lawn mowers, slope mowers, and tractors.
- Build prototype designs from Advanced Technology Center engineers' directions and documentation
- Assist business unit employees as needed to work with tech center designs
- Collaborate with Engineers to identify, escalate, and/or clarify potential design issues
- Manufacture devices and/or operate machines to build parts
- Light fabrication (Cut, Bend, Weld, Paint, and Assembly)
- Aware of and follows all safety standards and requirements
- Additional duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- Comfortable modifying chassis - Drill frames and modify air systems.
- Knowledge in steel manufacturing (fabrication and welding) equipment and processes with familiarity with MIG, TIG, plasma cutters, CNC, and assembly functions.
- Ability to perform basic measurements using tape measure, protractor, micrometers, calipers, and other measuring devices.
- Ability to use hand tools such as rachet drivers, wrenches, hammers, punches.
- Ability to use power tools such as impact drivers, drills, saws, grinders.
- Electrical skills to build harnesses to print, and experience wiring and assembling test fixtures
- Strong troubleshooting ability with the ability to trace an issue end-to-end throughout the whole vehicle
- Knowledge of electrical principles (e.g., AC/DC voltage, resistance, amperage, and their correlations)
- Computer interface fluent and able to use Calibration and tuning tools for diagnostics
- Desire familiarity with electric and hybrid vehicles
- Aviation, Tactical wheeled or tracked mechanic
- Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar to find information
- Ability to work without an explicit set of instructions where there is minimal documentation
- Demonstrated ability to provide timely, detailed, results oriented products.
- Able to work irregular and/or long hours that may include weekends and/or holidays as project schedules dictate.
- Able to maintain an insurable driving record
- Ability to read, interpret and implement drawings, schematics, operator's manuals, and assembly instructions.

Education and Experience:
High School education or GED required
Minimum seven (7+) years, verifiable experience as an industrial truck or heavy equipment mechanic, required
Previous MIG or TIG weld experience on mild steel and stainless steel preferred

Work performed may be in a non-climate-controlled production environment, with frequent standing, twisting, bending, stooping, and climbing in and around metal fabricated parts. Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of 40 pounds alone and 100> pounds with assistance. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and visual acuity to identify required parts and operate production assembly equipment (i.e., hand tools, power tools, hand truck, etc.).
