POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
Moss' Solar Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer, Preliminary Design, will work in concert with the Engineering Services team in the development of preliminary design packages to ensure the success of the preconstruction teams. Cross-functional problem-solving is a key component of the everyday responsibilities of this role.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create engineering design drawings for utility-scale solar PV power plants in AutoCAD/Civil3D.
Understand DC and AC systems and the interactions between the components, such as modules, racking, and inverters.
Maintain awareness of construction cost trade-offs as related to design considerations.
Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
Coordinate inputs from subject matter experts to translate technical concepts into engineering designs.
Understand the scope of work documents to ensure designs comply with all requirements.
Contribute to the review of internal and external design packages, including those prepared by third-party engineers of record.
Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams of engineers to develop new design standards that account for emerging technologies, BESS integration, new client scope requirements, and lessons learned.
Understand Civil and Structural engineering design drawings as applicable to design implications.
Understand the construction applications of solar power plant design, including PV string sizing, DC and AC conductor and conduit sizing, and racking/tracker design and powering.
Own portions of the project lifecycle from design to construction support.
Provide mentorship and support to junior team members on the Engineering Services team.
Travel cross-country to perform site visits.
Capable of working as part of a team, with strong communication skills to ensure robust documentation and problem resolution.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in engineering, technical field, or related discipline is required; a civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering degree is preferred.
0-1+ years' experience for Project Engineer or 2+ years' experience for Senior Project Engineer in the solar construction industry, or direct engineering management on solar construction projects. Solar experience is required.
Knowledge of electrical design, materials, and methods of construction in power systems.
Proven ability to work across multiple systems and manage design documentation.
Familiarity with CAD workflows and construction standards.
Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil3D, System Advisor Model, and Excel strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Autodesk Fusion or other 3D Design software is a plus.
Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) as it relates to utility-scale power plants is a plus.
Good communications and presentation skills, including the ability to organize and present complex technical information effectively in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Highly organized and able to multitask multiple projects at once.
