This position serves as one of the Highway Foreman for Bienville Parish. The incumbent is required to have specialized knowledge of the use of heavy equipment and computers, and tablets. Must be knowledgeable in safe operation of passenger vehicles as well as other equipment operated by Highway Foreman 1's. This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain licensing in the following areas Class A CDL License.
This vacancy is a promotion open to current DOTD employees only and may be filled by a detail to special duty.
Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR
Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Job Duties:
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as we as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. The incumbent is required to have specialized knowledge of the use of heavy equipment, computers, and tablets. Also, incumbent is required to operate said equipment, computers and tablets. Must be knowledgeable in safe operation of passenger vehicles as well as other equipment operated by Highway Foreman 1's. This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain licensing in the following areas Class A CDL License.
The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times without direct supervision and knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. This position also requires the incumbent to make minor repairs and preform necessary maintenance on equipment and vehicles used to perform this task. This position operates heavy equipment used in the repair and maintenance of the state and federal highway systems in Bienville Parish.
Supervises a 5-6 member highway maintenance crew while they operate heavy equipment including the following: track hoe (excavator), front end loader (2.8 Cubic yards), dump truck (tandem), and motor grader, dump trucks (single axle), mowing equipment, asphalt distributors, rollers, and skid steer loader with carious attachments. Supervises the operations of various road maintenance and general labor duties such as flagging traffic, patching potholes, cleaning storm drains, mowing and road construction etc. Schedules and assigns maintenance repairs in coordination with the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent. Conducts yearly reviews of crew members in CPM. Assists in monitoring the training of the maintenance crew members and coordinates with the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent to schedule training. Assists superintendent to insure that proper maintenance and repairs are made on all equipment assigned to or used by maintenance crew. Assists superintendent in making sure that proper reporting and documentation of all work activates, manpower, equipment, and materials.
Responds to superintendent's request to take necessary corrective action to complete complaint and requests made by public officials, property owners, and the general public.
Responds to emergencies on a twenty-four hour basis in order to protect the traveling public.
Fulfills the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent duties in case of absence. May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to emergency/disaster support activities.
