Overview

The Light Equipment Mechanic is responsible for providing the highest quality of maintenance, repair, inspection, and servicing of vehicles and equipment that align with department requirements for the City of Corpus Christi.

Responsibilities

  • Performs main engine, engine ignition, fuel system, and engine emission control system repairs
  • Repairs fuel system configurations to include diesel, gas, and alternative fuel
  • Diagnostics and repairs of automatic, standard, and electronic transmission mechanical and control systems, to include diagnosis and repair of standard transmission clutch operating systems, transaxle and transfer case systems, and all phases of final driver operations
  • Performs diagnosis and repairs of various types of suspension, steering, power assist, and alignment systems
  • Repairs various types of brake systems, to include hydraulic systems, disc and drum brake applications, air brake systems, and anti-lock brake system operations
  • Performs electrical and electronic system diagnosis and repair, which may include starting and charging systems, electrical wiring systems, gauges and warning systems, and accessory systems
  • Repairs ventilation systems, heat and air conditioning systems, refrigerant recovery, and mechanical system repair
  • Maintains fleet vehicles and operations and ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned to include occasional duties as Service Technician entering all work order information, greeting customers, and processing work orders
  • Operates light and heavy equipment such as winch truck, dump trucks, and other related equipment and machinery
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

  • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
  • Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
  • Must be available to work additional hours as needed
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
  • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

Required within six (6) months of employment

  • Forklift Operator Certification

Required within one (1) year of employment

  • Class B CDL
  • Vehicle Safety Inspector

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
