Job Summary
Essential Functions
- Required to understand and apply all welding specifications and procedures to be used for the construction, fabrication, and maintenance on all pipeline facilities, including casings, within the Companies of NiSource Distribution Operations.
- Welder performs electric arc welding (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) duties on natural gas pressurized steel piping, equipment, and fittings in accordance with NiSource Distribution Operations approved welding procedures.
- Uses oxy-acetylene to cut and for fabricating material.
- Welder/Stopple Combination in addition to being a qualified welder, performs hot tapping operations, plugging operations, and setting completion plugs on all sizes and pressures of natural gas pipelines.
- Responsible for maintaining all welding equipment and pipe drilling, tapping, and plugging equipment.
Required Qualifications For Position
- Must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of three (3) years experience in plant-field and /or natural gas construction operations.
- Describe any previous welding experience and/or experience operating drilling and plugging equipment
- Job requires working in all weather conditions.
- Job requires working in confined spaces and awkward positions.
- Knowledgeable of tie-in and purging procedures.
- Knowledgeable of monitoring pressure and gas flow.
- Required to maintain and operate equipment that is used for cutting or drilling, plugging operations, and setting completion plugs on natural gas pipeline systems.
- Must be able to successfully pass post offer physical capacity test, if required.
- Working knowledge of operations policies and procedures, and applicable federal, state and local codes/regulations, including OSHA regulations concerning pipeline safety and underground construction practices.
- Self-motivation and demonstrated ability to work with little direct supervision and make sound, independent decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to work in team environment (e.g., field operations, technical operations, contractors, integration center).
- Must be physically able to negotiate variety of terrain and building structures. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and physically demanding situations.
- Must have mechanical aptitude and demonstrated skills in the use of hand tools.
- Must have strong analytical skills. Ability to apply basic math as it relates to pipefitting and welding operations
- Must have strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to operate a company vehicle. Upon Hire

- Preference will be given to candidates with Stoppel & Welding qualification

Salary Range*:
$48.50 - $54.89*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidates skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience , as well as internal pay equity .
