Do you want to be part of the future of high-speed digital print materials and processes? We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Dayton, OH based inkjet Research and Development team who are responsible for developing and commercializing our core inkjet technology. This mechanical engineering role will be focused on the design, development, and implementation of continuous inkjet printheads. This position will work closely with other engineers, scientists, technicians, and cross-functional team members involved in the design and launch of our commercial digital inkjet printing products.
Responsibilities: This position will be focused on design, testing/validation, product release, manufacturing, and customer support for our printhead components. This individual will support the integration of the printhead components with our inks and writing systems and into our supported printing systems. This position will perform failure analysis of printhead components to identify root causes/failure modes and design and implement appropriate solutions for any issues. This position will participate and coordinate activities involving designers, manufacturing engineers, and technicians necessary as part of printhead development and implementation.
Required Skills/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, master's degree desired. 2 years of practical industrial experience is preferred (co-op, intern, or full-time). Product design experience of components and assemblies with small mechanical tolerances and the associated measurement/qualification techniques for inspection of those features. Familiarity with standard drafting practices and symbols (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). Knowledgeable in part fabrication processes (molding, stamping, diecasting, metal machining operations, EDM operations, etc.). Experience with computer software tools for the engineering environment including Microsoft applications and computer aided design (CAD). Knowledgeable in use of spreadsheet and databases for querying and data analysis. Finite element analysis and statistical data analysis experience desired. Ability to work independently as well as participate on teams that include engineers, scientists, technicians, manufacturing, management, and other Kodak staff. Written and verbal communication skills including project planning, risk assessment and mitigation, documentation of technical requirements, & technical presentations. Communication tasks will include presenting design and project plans, generating and releasing product design documentation, and interfacing with suppliers. Product design and development skills that spans the gamut from research thru technical development thru engineering design and release thru manufacturing startup and transition is necessary. Technical leadership experience as an individual contributor as well as participation on system integration project teams is desired. Experience with complex system integration, including characterization, troubleshooting, and testing skills. Experience with laboratory equipment and instrumentation, automated data acquisition, and camera/optics desired. Software and hardware integration skills on complex printing systems desired.
