HSE Specialist Job Description The HSE Specialist plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety and regulatory compliance within construction projects as well as manufacturing environments. This position is responsible for driving proactive safety initiatives, ensuring adherence to environmental standards, and minimizing operational risks. Through leadership in training, incident investigation, hazard mitigation, and continuous improvement, the HSE Specialist helps safeguard employee well-being and supports sustainable operations. Responsibilities Champion safe work practices and ensure alignment with internal policies and external regulatory requirements. Provide daily support and guidance on EHS matters to all levels of the organization. Collaborate effectively across teams to build strong working relationships and promote a safety-first mindset. Identify, assess, and address workplace hazards through structured risk evaluations and corrective actions. Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and implement preventive measures to avoid recurrence. Serve as the primary contact for internal and external audits related to safety, environmental compliance, and loss prevention. Oversee the safe installation and modification of equipment, applying tools such as FLRA and JHA/JSA. Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on operations, recommending necessary adjustments. Support the creation and maintenance of SOPs and safety documentation; manage training schedules and ensure compliance with recordkeeping standards. Administer programs such as hearing conservation in accordance with privacy and health regulations. Coordinate monthly safety inspections and follow up on identified issues to ensure timely resolution. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in an HSE-focused role. Professional certifications in EHS (e.g., CSP, CIH) preferred. MSHA certification and experience with MSHA-regulated projects is a plus. Demonstrated leadership in safety initiatives and the ability to influence across departments. Strong knowledge of U.S. occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations. Familiarity with industry standards and safety methodologies including hazard assessments, behavior-based safety, and equipment safety. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage all levels of the organization. Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to follow-through and meeting deadlines.
