The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

Essential Functions\:
• Perform quality sheet metal fabrication work.

• Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and work instructions to carry out assignments.

• Work directly with engineering personnel and technicians on assigned tasks.

• Utilize and interpret drawings and sketches to determine how to fabricate, assemble and install sheet metal
products.

• Measure, mark dimensions and lay out material to be fabricated using tools such as scribes, rulers,
calculators, and squares.

• Work with welders to weld or solder sheet metal components, when required.

• When welding or soldering is not required, fasten joints and seams in sheet metal with caulk, bolts, and metal
driver clips, ensuring work is done carefully and bonds will last.

• Use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file and grind metal surfaces and joints of parts that have
been assembled to ensure safety and a seamless appearance.

• Select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal to be used in projects according to specifications.

• Ensure safety is a priority on the job during all activities, including using tools and installing and fabricating
sheet metal.

• Operate forklift and man-lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required.

• Work at elevated locations using systems/equipment such as ladders, man-lifts, scaffolding and other work
platforms.

• Operate appropriate shop mechanical equipment, systems, and tools in the performance of work duties.

• Clean hardware and components to the appropriate level prior to, during, and after fabrication/welding using
established procedures and specifications.

• Maintain equipment as necessary, including preventive maintenance, repairs, or replacement of parts.

• Execute all work duties in a skilled, safe, and technically acceptable manner.

• Wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing during performance of work
duties, to include safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, gloves, masks, respirators, coveralls, harnesses, etc.

• Identify and correct potential hazards and/or unsafe acts/conditions at the work site.

• Notify Supervision of any hazards in the workplace and advise on potential corrective actions.

• Maintain work area in a neat, orderly, and safe condition • HS diploma or equivalent trade school, with at least 3 Years' experience working as a sheet metal
worker.
• Requires technical training and experience acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training
and experience, including during military service.
• Must be able to fabricate sheet metal from a design, drawing or sketch.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to assist with the work of others.
• Familiar with concepts, practices, and procedures within assigned work area.
• Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, lifts, pendant cranes, and precision measuring and testing equipment
is required.
• Must be able to communicate ideas accurately and effectively in writing and verbally.
• Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, staff, engineering, and managers.
• Ability to hold the necessary security clearances.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications on a standard PC.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the necessary medical/physical requirements.
• Must possess or have ability to obtain a Class D motor vehicle license.

Physical Requirements\:
• Duties may include the handling and transportation of hazardous waste (if qualified).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to distinguish between colors.
• Ability to comply with safety policies and compliances.
• Must use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
• Must be able to climb ladders, towers, and stairs.
• Will require physical exertion in climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, carrying, or critical work in cramped
quarters.

Work Environment\:
• All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
• Work will mainly be performed in an indoor environment, but fieldwork may be a combination of indoor and
outdoor, depending on the project.
• Working at heights is required.
• Working in confined spaces may be required.
• Work among equipment and stations in support of launches or stand-by.
• Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
• Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand may require accessing various
locations on the facility.

Equipment and Machines\:
• Water jet machines, brakes, shears, presses, etc.
• Cutting, fabricating, forming machines, punch and drill presses, grinders, buffers, files, and standard shop
tools as required.
• Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment
including desk supplies.

Attendance\:
• Work is normally 8-Hour shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
• Must be dependable and punctual.
• Frequent overtime to include weekends and holidays, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet
demanding schedule.

Other Essential Functions\:
• US Citizenship required.
• Government security clearance may be required.
• Ability to obtain certifications required to perform tasks assigned.
• Must exhibit a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
• Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from a customer
location, which may involve airline travel.
• Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the
employee or others.
• Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good
relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
• Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate
federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by
employees in sensitive positions.
• Must pass a federal background investigation.
