SUPERVISOR, PLUMBING SYSTEMS, Repair & Maintenance , will be responsible for managing, mentoring, motivating and holding accountable a team of plumbers; providing direction and technical expertise to staff as well as supplemental contractors; and providing planning and project management related to evaluating and prioritizing deferred and preventative maintenance necessary to optimize systems and resources in a safety conscious manner.
REQUIRED : A valid Massachusetts Master Plumber's License with direct experience in an institutional or campus environment; a minimum of five years of related supervisory experience with plumbers, preferably in a union environment; full knowledge of all applicable state and federal plumbing codes and standards; proven ability to foster strong working relationships with City Inspection Services and local authorities; ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across the Facilities Department and with customers across the Institute in a positive, professional manner; demonstrated ability to manage work order backlog with proficiency in job planning and execution and take direction and conduct analysis independently while working problems through to resolution; in-depth knowledge of preventative maintenance standards and practices related to plumbing systems, HVAC/R plumbing systems and experience with building and underground utility systems such as compressed air, vacuum, domestic and non-potable water, softened water, sewage, clear water waste/storm drainage and steam distribution.
The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:00AM-3:00PM; but must also be available for off-hours emergencies and standby supervisory coverage on a rotating basis on weekends and holidays.
Working Conditions: Ascending/descending stairs; traversing the campus; moving about the jobsite and machinery to access equipment; remaining stationary for extended periods of time; and working from ladders, scaffolds, and other aboveground locations such as roofs. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required by the specific assignment. Environment contains dust, odors, and fumes, high levels of noise and temperature extremes. Work will be performed near steam and moving machinery, in tight areas and confined spaces such as manholes and crawl spaces, and with and around chemicals and solvents. Some work performed in research labs and animal facilities and outdoors in inclement weather.
MIT will conduct a background check (including Checking Criminal Records) for finalists.
