Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Construction Inspector will support the Engineering Department at Nashville International Airport and John C. Tune Airport as part of the Safety and Quality Assurance team. This role reports to the Quality Manager and ensures compliance with project plans, technical specifications, codes, and applicable regulations, while overseeing construction activities with emphasis on safety, quality, and documentation.

Essential Responsibilities.

  • Inspects projects for compliance with contract plans, specifications, standards, permit/code requirements, and other state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures contractor oversight and quality control is adequate for the project and complying with approved requirements.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with regulatory authorities, tenants, contractors, and consultants.
  • Communicates clearly and accurately to ensure stakeholder understanding, alignment, and regulatory adherence.
  • Provides daily summaries and briefings to Senior Construction Inspector and Quality Manager.
  • Actively supports construction management teams by identifying, analyzing, and solving design and field conflicts, delivering accurate, actionable recommendations to guide resolution and maintain project alignment.
  • Monitors contractor safety programs to ensure work site conditions meet OSHA, FAA, and MNAA safety standards.
  • Schedules quality assurance and acceptance testing per plans and specifications.
  • Produces required quality assurance documentation including composing Daily Assessment Reports, Non-Conformance Reports, and any other quality related documentation.
  • Navigates and assess active construction zones to observe progress and verify conformance across infrastructure, commercial, and industrial project environments.
  • Participates in construction progress meetings to address safety measures, quality control objectives, and key milestones.
  • Interprets project documents, including contracts, drawings, specifications, and codes, to ensure construction aligns with approved requirements.
  • Reviews contractor quality control programs to verify workmanship, procedural accuracy, and documentation consistency.
  • Identifies and communicates nonconforming work promptly and professionally to appropriate parties.
  • Participates in punch list walks to document and address incomplete or deficient work.
  • Generates comprehensive records, including daily reports, inspection logs, test results, and annotated sketches.
  • Provides reports, data, information through digital platforms and software used for tracking construction activities, managing documents, and supporting real-time communications.
  • Contributes expertise during design phases through constructability reviews and technical feedback.
  • Reviews project submittals, RFIs, PCOs, and Change Orders in support of construction managers and controls personnel.
  • Tracks and records installed quantities to support certification and validation of payment applications.
  • Schedules and oversees nondestructive and materials testing.
  • Coordinates and issues task orders directing Independent Testing Agency (ITA) services covering inspection, testing, and reporting.
  • Reviews ITA reports and data for compliance with project specifications, approved plans, and governing regulations.
  • Implements MNAA’s ITA protocols to facilitate owner acceptance and turnover milestones.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Quality Manager, VP of Airport Capital Development or VP of New Horizon.
  • Reviews contractor safety programs, site specific safety plans, job hazard analysis, Construction Safety Phasing Plans.
  • Collaborates with contractor safety representatives to reinforce accountability and safe practices.
  • Conducts daily safety inspections and actively participates in site safety walks alongside contractor safety representatives to reinforce compliance and promote a safe work environment.
  • Applies OSHA guidelines to investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses. Ensures contractor safety representatives use findings to implement proactive safety measures and prevent future occurrences.
  • Reports and documents observed safety concerns through established channels.

  • Maintains regular and on-time attendance. Open to working flexible hours; including days, nights, weekends, and nonstandard shifts to meet the operational needs of airport activities and contractor schedules.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4-7 years of experience with monitoring, inspection, testing activities, across transportation, commercial, industrial, or institutional construction projects
  • Valid Class D Driver's License
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour Construction Class Certificate (upon hire)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour Construction Class Certificate (within 1 year of hire)

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, construction materials, construction management, or equivalent
  • Airport Certified Member (CM) Program Certificate (within 1 year of hire)
