JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: To repair and maintain heating, air-conditioning and ventilating systems at school district locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinates with assigned foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs.
- Fabricates equipment parts for the purpose of meeting specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.
- Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
- Inspects HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
- Installs heating and air conditioning equipment and systems for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities.
- Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
- Participates in meetings, workshops training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC systems.
- Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
- Repairs heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable work environment.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
- Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have a degree in an HVAC field
- Must have minimum two (2) years experience in the field of HVAC
- Must be certified as Universal by an EPA approved certifying organization.
- Have good attendance and work record. Have good driving record and the ability to operate medium duty trucks.
- Be able to work overtime, with short notices, if needed.
- Must have knowledge and minimum two (2) years field experience and ability to repair and service window and central air-conditioning systems, chillers, air handlers, pneumatic and electrical control systems and packaged HVAC systems.
- Possess good driving record and ability to operate medium duty truck.
- Have the ability to service and repair hot water and low-pressure steam boiler systems.
- Have the ability to service and repair refrigeration equipment freezers, refrigerators, milk and ice cream boxes, and other kitchen equipment.
- Have excellent skills in the use of commonly used HVAC tools such as vacuum pumps, reclamation equipment, meters, power tools, gauges, and hand tools, etc.
- Possess good human relation skills.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
- HVAC Technician is responsible for the following duties:

- Packaged HVAC Systems
- Window air-conditioning units
- Central air-conditioning systems, chillers, and air handlers
- Pneumatic and electrical control systems
- Refrigeration equipment
- Walk-in freezers, reach-in boxes, milk and ice cream boxes, and other kitchen equipment
- Hot water and low pressure steam boiler systems
- Water loop recirculation pumps and controls
- Operate multiple types of computer based energy management and control systems.
- Move heavy objects as needed.
- Operate medium duty trucks
- Perform other duties as assigned

All Plant Department positions are physically demanding and require the ability to lift up to 100 pounds, work off of ladders and scaffold, work in confined areas with frequent stretching, twisting and bending. Specific job categories may be more strenuous and may require different physical abilities, but all jobs incorporate the above requirements.
