What is an Engineering Technician - Electric Distribution Planning & Interconnections?
An Engineering Technician within the Electric Distribution Planning & Interconnections group supports the Electrical Engineers with planning, evaluating, designing, and modeling, for the operations and construction of electric distribution systems, electric substations, and/or associated facilities. The Electric Distribution Planning & Interconnections group is responsible for performing long-range system studies for the companys electric distribution system as well as analyzing the impacts from distributed energy resources looking to operate in parallel with Central Hudsons system.
What does an Engineering Technician - Electric Distribution Planning & Interconnections do?
Reviews distributed generation interconnection applications, one-line/three-line diagrams, site plans, manufacturer datasheets, equipment certifications, etc.
Witnesses distributed generation interconnection commissioning tests.
Maintains familiarity with distributed generation interconnection technical requirements; IEEE-1547, UL-1741, etc.
Assists with circuit modeling studies such as modeling the distribution system using engineering modeling software.
Provides administrative support for distributed generation interconnections.
Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts.
What does it take to be an Engineering Technician- Electric Distribution Planning & Interconnections?
Required:
Associates degree in a STEM related field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math). In lieu of an associates degree, 10 years of electric utility/distribution system experience and industry-specific certifications/credentials will be considered
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
Ability to work as a team player and interact with customers, staff, and management
Aptitude for mechanical analysis and demonstrated proficiency in math
Excellent problem-solving skills, with innovation in mind
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask, juggle competing priorities, navigate complex situations, and consistently use good judgment
Must perform all tasks safely and design with safety in mind
Valid drivers license
