BGS Maintenance Mechanic II

Overview

The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) is seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic to join our team in Burlington. This role is essential in keeping our facilities safe, functional, and welcoming for staff and the public.

The Maintenance Mechanic will perform routine inspections to catch issues early, carry out preventive maintenance, and complete general building repairs. The position will also support seasonal tasks like snow removal, groundskeeping, and graffiti removal to keep our sites in top shape.

Duties include:

• Conduct routine inspections of equipment and building systems to identify potential issues.
• Perform preventive maintenance, including lubricating moving parts, changing HVAC filters/belts, replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles, painting, and completing minor
• plumbing repairs.
• Provide general groundskeeping services such as mowing, trimming, graffiti removal, and snow/ice removal.
• Respond to building maintenance needs promptly and effectively.

The ideal candidate will be a strong problem-solver with the ability to troubleshoot effectively, communicate clearly when collaborating with team members or reporting issues, and bring technical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, general building maintenance, and the safe use of tools and equipment.

This position will work Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm. Work will primarily take place at the Costell Corthouse, CUSI, and Probation and Parole, with occasional assignments at other Northwest District facilities. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a criminal background check are required.

As part of the largest division within BGS, you'll play a key role in keeping state operations running efficiently.

Starting pay may be negotiable based on your experience and education.
