Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary

The General Maintenance and Repair Technician (GMRT) Senior position assists the skilled crafts employees with work in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, and painting. This position performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the Plumbing department for the buildings throughout the Capitol Complex Campus and Forbes. This position functions as a Plumber Trainee and will receive on-the-job training to become a Plumber I.

The GMRT Senior position will assist the Plumbers with auguring drain lines, cleaning out drain sinks, clearing blockages in toilets with the auger, repairing and replacing domestic water and waste piping, performing preventative maintenance on pumps and equipment, rebuilding and replacing faucets and flush valves, exterior shallow trenching and hand digging.

The GMRT Senior will receive training in the primary areas of plumbing, such as, repair and service the sewer, water, steam, condensation, natural gas, and fire suppression systems. Additional duties include the following:

  • Detect and diagnose leaks, stoppages, inadequate supply and faulty operation of water, steam, condensate, natural gas equipment and air lines in the Capitol Complex buildings.
  • Plan, install, repair, replace and maintain copper, steel, galvanized, cast iron, plastic piping systems to maintain hot and cold-water systems, sewage and drainage systems in operational condition and to control the movement of containment of fluids and gases.
  • Rebuild circulating pumps on the heating and cooling systems, domestic water, fire system, sewage lift and storm drain sumps in the Capitol Complex buildings.
  • Serves on a crew of four (4) employees in the following positions: three (3) Plumber Seniors and (one) (1) Plumber.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in two or more building trades or mechanical building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
