Duties Description Under the direct supervision of the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor, SG-18, the incumbent is responsible for supervising the Allegany Regional Carpenter Crew and coordinating related maintenance and construction activities. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Supervise, guide, and evaluate carpenter crew members; providing training and technical direction.
- Assign and oversee carpentry work including installation, maintenance, and repair of building components.
- Interpret blueprints, construction plans, and specifications.
- Collaborate with and supervise other trades as needed, including masons, sign shop, and paint shop personnel.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Enforce agency policies, approve timesheets, and prepare staff evaluations.
- Schedule crew assignments and allocate resources efficiently.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment, submit requisitions and quotes.
- Ensure preventative maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Perform administrative tasks including reports, memos, correspondence, and data management.
- Represent the carpenter crew in regional maintenance and project meetings.
- Evaluate readiness and assist in emergency response situations.
Minimum Qualifications One year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics), Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason & Plasterer), Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter), Service & Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R), Trades Specialist (Roofing), or Trades Specialist (Welder).
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must have a working knowledge of basic and advanced carpentry techniques, including the math required for the trade.
- Must have a working knowledge of supervisory principles.
- Must have a basic knowledge of the practices and techniques of trades supervised other than carpentry, i.e. commercial painting, masonry, and sign-making.
- Must have the ability to perform the physical tasks required of a carpenter, including working at height.
- Must possess working knowledge of appropriate NYS building and construction code regulations.
