TEMPORARY LABORER

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Temporary Laborer for the Streets Operations Division within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of a Public Works Foreman, the position will assist in maintaining and beautifying City streets through a wide range of general labor tasks that contribute to the maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of City roadways, sidewalks, and surrounding infrastructure. This position may also assist with administrative functions for the Street Operations Division. The Temporary Laborer will also coordinate with the Traffic Division to paint poles and straighten signage as needed.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Perform general labor tasks
- Perform routine manual maintenance operations
- Perform mail collection
- Address residential complaints
- Remove general debris from sidewalks
- Remove deceased animals
- Other duties as assigned
SECONDARY ELEMENTS:
- Coordinate with the Traffic Division to paint poles
- Coordinate with the Traffic Division to straighten signage
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to interact with patrons and the general public in a professional manner
- Ability to work in accordance with the City of Worcester and department practices and procedures
- Ability to operate and use power equipment and hand tools
- Ability to accept and respect supervision/guidance
- Ability to work up to thirty-five (35) hours per week
- Ability to work holidays and weekends
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Valid Driver's License
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Excellent written and verbal communication
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One (1) year of experience in a similar laborer intensive role
- Experience working with hand tools
- Basic landscaping and custodial skills
- Certified American Red Cross First-Aid & CPR/AED
SALARY RANGE: $15.50 hourly, temporary, non-benefitted.
