Position Information
Position Title Plumber Department Name Maintenance and Repairs Full Time / Part Time Full-time General Statement of Duties
To install, inspect, and repair water, sewer, and other plumbing systems; to insulate piping systems; and to do related work as required.
Supervision Received
Receives general and specific work assignments from a superior with considerable latitude for the use of independent judgment in the application of the practices and techniques of the trade; work is reviewed usually upon completion for satisfactory performance.
Supervision Exercised
As required, supervises the work of helpers or others assigned to assist in the performance of a work assignment.

Position Overview
The Department of Facilities & Operations is responsible for the maintenance and operations of the physical aspects of the Rhode Island College multi-building campus including contractor administration and the Central Falls Hub.
Reports To Associate Director, Facilities & Operations, Maintenance and Repairs Illustrative Examples of Work Performed
Under general supervision, to install, inspect, and repair water and sewer systems, including lavatory facilities, faucets, drinking fountains, sprinkler systems, and cafeteria equipment.
To inspect and maintain institutional equipment, such as continuous baths, shampoo tables, arm and foot baths, thermostatic mixing valves, and various hydrotherapy equipment.
To install, inspect, and repair gas and air lines.
To cut, thread, and bend pipes according to requirements.
To keep all power equipment and hand tools of the trade in good working condition.
As required, to requisition supplies and tools.
As required, to keep materials and time records.
To do related work as required
Education
Such as may have been gained through: completion of eight school grades; and
Experience
Such as may have been gained through: employment as a journeyman plumber.
Or Combination of Education and Experience
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
Or Combination of Education and Experience Additional Required Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a journeyman plumber's license in the State of Rhode Island and must maintain such licensure as a condition of employment. At the time of appointment must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate.
Knowledges Skills and Capacities
A thorough knowledge of the practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in the plumbing trade and skill in the application of such practices and techniques; skill in the use of the tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade; a working knowledge of safety measures and precautions; the ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow rough sketches and oral and written instructions; and related capacities and abilities.
