General Scope:
To assist the Plant Director in the direction of the Paint Shop. Supervises workers engaged in preparing, painting, and finishing products and parts, ensuring adherence to company quality and safety standards.
Position Summary:
- Coordinates with Production Control to requisition necessary paint materials and supplies to meet production goals.
- Ensures products meet paint quality specifications and finish standards.
- Directly supervises assistant supervisors and workers in the paint shop, including painters, prep technicians, and finish inspectors.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hours required for job completion.
- Enforces company policies and safety regulations.
- Reviews paint specifications, blueprints, and job orders to assign duties.
- Adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules and targets.
- Recommends process improvements and equipment upgrades to improve product quality and efficiency.
- Oversees quality assurance practices related to surface prep, coating thickness, finish quality, and curing times.
- Troubleshoots paint issues and assists workers in resolving problems.
- Motivates and develops shop employees to achieve performance goals.
- Maintains accurate time and production records.
- May be required to inspect painted units in the field or at customer sites.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises 10 to 15 employees in the paint shop. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and discipline. Ensures compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education:
Associate's degree or equivalent; or two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination. Certifications in industrial painting/coatings preferred.
Knowledge:
Proficient knowledge in:
- Industrial painting processes (e.g., powder coating, HVLP, airless spray).
- Surface preparation standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE).
- Paint material handling and storage.
- ERP and inventory systems (e.g., LN ERP).
- Shop floor documentation and reporting.
Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret safety documents, paint specs, and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to write reports and communicate effectively with staff and customers.
- Proficient in metric and imperial measurements.
- Ability to solve operational problems and manage workflow.
- Strong time management and planning skills.
- Knowledge of environmental and OSHA safety standards related to paint operations.
- Ability to train and certify employees on equipment and safety procedures.
- Forklift and material handling equipment proficiency preferred.
- Valid driver’s license (passport may be required for customer visits).

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
