We are looking for a Directional Drill Locator & Operator to join our underground utilities crew. If you know your way around HDD rigs, can read utility maps like a pro, and arent afraid of a little dirt and diesel, we want you on our team.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Directional Drill Locator & Operator to join our underground utilities construction team. This position plays a key role in safely and accurately installing underground conduit and pipeline systems for gas, power, and telecommunications & companies across Utah. If you can keep a bore path straight, read utility maps without breaking a sweat, and enjoy working outdoors with heavy equipment, this is your chance to drill your way into a stable, rewarding career.
ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for all aspects of the drilling project, including potholing and verifying existing utilities, operating Vermeer directional drills, and locating with DigiTrak equipment. Duties also include backfilling potholes, completing restoration work, and ensuring all bore paths are constructed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment.
- Accurately track and guide bore path using locating equipment.
- Read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and job specifications.
- Perform daily equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Safely expose and identify existing utilities to prevent damage, and operate potholing equipment as required.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, industry safety standards, and company policies.
- Complete accurate daily reporting of job progress, equipment usage, and materials.
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in horizontal/directional drilling and locating operations.
- Knowledge of HDD equipment (such as Vermeer & Digitrak).
- Strong understanding of underground utility construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and utility locates.
- Must hold a valid drivers license (CDL Class A Required).
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physically able to lift 50+ lbs and work long shifts when required.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment and random drug test.
