About the role

Riot Data Centers is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as the technical authority for hyperscale data center power systems. In this role, you'll set electrical design standards, review and approve consultant deliverables, and ensure world-class reliability for AI/ML and mission-critical workloads.

You'll be the technical conscience of $100M+ projects, ensuring every electrical design meets Riot's exacting standards while driving innovation in energy efficiency, sustainability, and modular construction approaches. The Senior Electrical Engineer serves as a technical expert and resource for the team, championing technical growth, providing mentorship, and promoting a spirit of collaboration and ongoing improvement. This position will be based in our Denver office with travel up to 25% for site visits, consultant meetings, and technical assessments.

Essential Functions

  • Establish and enforce electrical design standards and specifications.
  • Review, approve, and guide consultant and contractor electrical designs.
  • Oversee critical power systems (UPS, generators, switchgear, distribution).
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and implement QA/QC protocols for all electrical design deliverables.
  • Conduct technical audits of completed designs and construction documentation.
  • Approve commissioning plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria developed by CX providers.
  • Mentor engineers and represent electrical discipline in executive forums.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven track record managing consultant relationships and technical approvals for $50M+ projects.
  • Deep understanding of mission-critical power systems including UPS systems, backup generators, switchgear, and power distribution units.
  • Expert knowledge of electrical design standards, codes (NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE), and industry best practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in electrical analysis software (ETAP, SKM PowerTools) for design validation.
  • Previous experience with AI deployment with LTC (liquid to chip) is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program (P.E. preferred).
  • 10+ years in electrical engineering with 5+ years in technical review and approval roles.
  • 5+ years in data center or mission-critical facility electrical systems.
  • Advanced certifications in power systems analysis and electrical safety preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range $140,000-170,000 commensurate with experience
