Overview

Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Field Services Division is responsible for the inspection, testing, regulatory compliance, operation, and maintenance of over 4,800 miles of pipeline, over 11,000 fire hydrants, and approximately 860 wastewater pump stations.

The Field Services Division is seeking qualified individuals to fill multiple positions of Industrial Electrician Trainee or I or II. These positions perform electrical maintenance duties involving troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and replacing damaged or malfunctioning electrical lines, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment in an industrial wastewater / pump station environment with multiple critical processes.

Work is performed with considerable independence under the Manager. Performance is reviewed through observations and results achieved.

Job Description

Industrial Electrician I

Work is performed under the general direction of assigned supervisor or Master Electrician. Performance is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.

Installs, troubleshoots and repairs low and medium voltage systems up to 4,160 volts with limited supervision.

In accordance with manufacturers' specifications, performs electrical preventative maintenance on motors which may require the removal of hot oils, greases and other liquids. Refills or replaces all items to maintain the integrity of the electric motors and the related equipment.

Calibrates and maintains controls and process instruments and other instruments using a 4-20ma control signal.

Maintains arc flash compliance following safety protocols in a live environment.

Performs troubleshooting and maintenance for all levels of infrastructure in water/water reclamation plants and lift station operation, working with mechanical and electrical equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), fuses, breakers and contactors.

Troubleshoot control systems equipped with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using ladder logic diagrams and electrical schematics. Uses technical manuals and prints to isolate and repair control systems.

Uses multimeter instruments to identify voltage and ensures the safety of the work location while performing repairs.

Works in enclosed spaces, adjacent to electrical equipment while installing or repairing chase pipes for wiring additional power or communication sources.

Works with hand tools, climbs ladders and/or opens working pull boxes to run various types of cables.

Interprets and understands Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) / PLC logic which involves reading and understanding data trends used in troubleshooting equipment.

Utilizes a work order management system to capture and record electrical failures, views historical data, report time and resources expended to complete work orders.

Assists other staff with low voltage wiring while installing lights, switches and other low voltage equipment required for the maintenance of a safe working area or restoration of communications systems.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Industrial Electrician II

Work is performed under the general direction of a higher-level supervisor. Performance is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.

Troubleshoots and repairs controls and electrical on heavy industrial equipment including drives, generators, up to 12,500-volt power distribution equipment. Maintains and troubleshoots large horsepower motors up to 1000 HP.

Performs skilled electrical work which involves maintenance and troubleshooting of Utilities lift stations, water/reclaimed water plants and facilities.

Supervises, trains and participates in the installation of low and medium voltage wiring, installing lights, switches and equipment required to maintain a safe working area or for the restoration of communications systems. Repairs and maintains motor control centers up to 12,500 volts.

Manages arc flash compliance programs and safety protocols in a live environment.

Troubleshoot control systems equipped with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using ladder logic diagrams and electrical schematics. Uses technical manuals and prints to isolate and repair control systems.

Operates, maintains, updates and repairs sophisticated electrical power distribution controls.

Performs electrical preventative maintenance on motors in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, which may require the removal of hot oils, greases and other liquids. Refills or replaces all items to maintain the integrity of the electric motors and the related equipment.

Uses multimeter instruments for troubleshooting to identify voltage and ensure the safety of the work location. Oversees the proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Performs troubleshooting and maintenance for all levels of infrastructure in water/water reclamation plants and lift station operation; works with mechanical and electrical equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), fuses, breakers and contactors.

Works with hand tools, climbs ladders and/or opens working pull boxes to run various types of cables.

Interprets Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) / PLC which involves reading and understanding logic and data trends used in troubleshooting equipment.

Utilizes a work order management system to capture and record electrical failures, views historical data, report time and resources expended to complete work orders.

Prepares detailed scope of work requirements for work requiring utilization of outside contractors.

Provides review and input of term contracts for UP systems, electrical maintenance, repair, testing and diagnostic services.

Provide review and input of electrical related projects, schematics, plans and drawings.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Industrial Electrician Trainee

High school diploma or equivalent or completion of a certified electrical (or related) program. No prior work experience is required.

Industrial Electrician I

State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Journeyman Electrician

Or

Six years of training and graduation from a vocational school or program

Or

Six years of technical electrical work experience in a commercial or industrial setting.

Industrial Electrician II

State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Master Electrician

Or

Six years of training and graduation from a vocational school or program and 2 years of technical electrical work experience in a commercial or industrial environment

Or

Eight years of technical electrical work experience in a commercial or industrial environment

Candidates for all the above positions must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.

Based on area of assignment, must have the ability to perform in confined spaces and use safety equipment including respirator equipment per Orange County requirements

Preferences

State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Journeyman Electrician.

Medium voltage electrical work experience.

Experience in water, water reclamation or industrial operations and processes.

Familiarity with local Orange County electrical codes.

Experience in troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and replacing damaged or malfunctioning electrical lines, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment.
