Our client is a growing construction firm specializing in site development and heavy civil projects. Their team is committed to delivering high-quality construction services while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and safety-focused culture. They are looking for a strong leader to join their team as Director of Construction, providing strategic oversight and operational excellence across all construction projects.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$150k - $175k
Position Overview:
The Director of Construction is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction operations, with a focus on pre-construction planning and project execution. This role will lead the Pre-Construction and Project Management teams, ensuring projects are accurately estimated, properly planned, and executed efficiently and safely from inception through completion. The ideal candidate brings strategic thinking, deep industry knowledge, and exceptional leadership to help scale operations and deliver high-quality site development projects.
Responsibilities of the Director of Construction:
- Lead, mentor, and develop Pre-Construction and Project Management teams.
- Foster a collaborative culture focused on accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement departmental policies, SOPs, and training programs.
- Direct budgeting, estimating, bid management, and constructability reviews.
- Collaborate with Business Development and Estimating teams to assess project feasibility and profitability.
- Review and approve estimates and proposals for accuracy and competitiveness.
- Oversee due diligence, permitting strategies, and risk assessment.
- Manage overall project delivery for active construction sites, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, safety, and quality standards.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents for timely, cost-effective execution.
- Monitor KPIs, productivity, and subcontractor performance.
- Resolve complex project issues, delays, and conflicts.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the construction department, including growth planning, resource allocation, and process improvement.
- Develop construction budgets, forecasts, and staffing plans aligned with business objectives.
- Implement project management systems and tools for tracking progress and reporting.
Required Experience/Skills for the Director of Construction:
- 10+ years of experience in site development or heavy civil construction, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record managing complex projects and leading large teams.
- Strong knowledge of site development processes (grading, utilities, stormwater management, erosion control, etc.).
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam).
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Director of Construction:
- Experience scaling construction teams and implementing operational best practices.
- Strong financial management skills and familiarity with construction budgets and forecasting.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
