Water Maintenance & Operations Laborer

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, installs, maintains, repairs, and services waterdistribution facilities.

Major Responsibilities:

Assists with installation and repair of water lines and mainsAssists with installation of new service tapsAssists with line locates as neededAssists with joining and fitting of pipelines and valvesAssists with repair of fire hydrants, valves, and individual serviceconnectionsAssists with maintenance of pumps, lift stations, water towers andassociated equipmentAssists in the preparation of reports concerning work progress and otherreports as assigned by the foreman or superintendentMaintains safe work environment through continual observance of proceduresand safety awarenessMaintains cleanliness of interior and exterior of facility by way of mowing;weed eating, sweeping, mopping, and general upkeep.On an as needed basis performs traffic control, repairs street andsidewalks, notifies customers of service interruptions, and collects watersamples.Notifies customers when assigned work affects servicePerforms other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments asrequired.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge:

High school graduate or GEDPossession of or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire:Class "D" ODEQ Waterworks Operator certificationPossession of or ability to obtain within 1 year of hireClass "B" or higher Commercial Driver License

(Acquisition of CDL is an automatic upgrade to Maintenance Technician Level I)

Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, andpoliciesKnowledge of proper safety procedures related grounds maintenanceKnowledge of proper constructions methods and techniques, including theproper use and placement of traffic control devicesSkill in oral and written communicationAbility to work with hand tools and small equipmentAbility to work with motorized vehicles and equipmentAbility to be reached during off hours in the event of an emergencyAbility to read construction drawings, land plats, maps and other diagrams
