General Laborer- Civil

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The General Laborer Civil is responsible for providing a wide ranging of physical labor on construction sites, by following instructions of the foreman.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Cleaning and clearing the construction site, removing debris, leveling ground, and setting up temporary structures like scaffolding,

  • Loading and unloading construction materials like lumber, rebar, concrete, and plywood from trucks to the work area,
  • Digging trenches, holes, and other excavations as needed using shovels, picks, and other hand tools,
  • Assisting in concrete pouring operations by placing forms, tying rebar, wire mesh, vibrating concrete, and leveling surfaces,
  • Aligning, placing, and securing reinforcing steel (rebar) according to specifications,
  • Assisting with structural support and the installation of beams, columns, and other structural components,
  • Following all safety protocols, wearing required PPE, and reporting any hazards to the supervisor,
  • Grade dirt and concrete efficiently and accurately,
  • Required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • 0 (zero) to 1 (one) year of construction experience or similar,
  • Must be 18 years of age or older,
  • Must be able to work independently and/or as a part of a team,
  • Possess a positive attitude and work ethic,
  • Good communication skills,
  • Focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times,
  • High school diploma or equivalency is desired,
  • Flagger certification desired,
  • OSHA 10 hour preferred,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug & alcohol screening.

Working Conditions:

  • Work outdoors in changing weather conditions, noisy, physically demanding, and potentially hazardous during too heavy machinery,
  • This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist. In addition, you must have the ability to be on stand for an extended period.
  • This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts).
  • Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
  • Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances
