SUMMARY
Provide strong technical leadership and documentation in the area of Environmental Engineering, Environmental Control Systems, Utilities Systems, and Site Infrastructure Systems. Systems include, but are not limited to, steam, HVAC, natural gas, LTC, CTW, high purity water systems, thermal oxidizers, wastewater treatment, and hazardous waste loading systems. Requires in-depth understanding of chemical processes and site business needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Establishes and maintains strong, transparent, and effective day-to-day working relationships between maintenance, manufacturing, R&D, internal support, regulatory groups, and CPC customers related to assigned areas
- Provides day-to-day support to Utilities, Facilities, and Environmental Operations, at times requiring attention outside of normal work hours
- Participate in troubleshooting efforts to resolve utilities, facilities, and environmental operations issues. Ability to perform monitoring, automation, and separate package software controls modifications as required, promoting and ensuring system reliability
- Participate with team to identify, evaluate, and implement programs that reduce cost; improve operating efficiency; resolve or prevent environmental impacts; reduce down time; and improve permit and regulatory compliance consistency, with a bias towards low-cost solutions
- Have a working knowledge and demonstrate functional skills for on-site automation and control systems. Ability to integrate, maintain, and troubleshoot automation systems in all site chemical, environmental, and facilities areas
- Work with and train utilities, facilities, and environmental protection operations staff on technical and business issues, as requested by Environmental or Maintenance manager
- Coordinate internal Environmental Control System (ECS) operation and maintenance crews as support is requested by Environmental or Maintenance manager. Provide guidance and oversight to external support personnel. Negotiate contracts, in tandem with Purchasing, for external service providers, including utility providers
- Track systems uptime, capacities, and demands to ensure reliability and performance goals are achieved. Continually identify opportunities to increase performance and operational efficiencies. Review & recommend operating limits for new and existing equipment. Verify that automated monitoring equipment (i.e., CEM units) is operating correctly, and that long-term reliability issues are being addressed
- Identify opportunities to decrease system operating costs where appropriate, taking into account awareness of budget targets and adherence to budget goals
- Develop basic design and user requirement data, and critically review detailed design, as it relates to projects impacting Environmental operations
- Provide Project Management, design support, and automation support for small capital and expense projects on environmental, mechanical, and utility systems; and provide owner support for large projects. The incumbent may serve as the Project Engineer for individual projects
- Coordinate Process Safety Management (PSM) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) activities as necessary
- Support Environmental Superintendent and Utility Lead as requested in training efforts. Develop procedures for new equipment or processes that are implemented
- Assist with corporate reporting, such as the annual sustainability report
LEADERSHIP & BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate a positive attitude. Coach and mentor employees in the technical, social, and business disciplines. Provide leadership, even when not formally assigned to a leadership role, in the development, troubleshooting, and improvement of utilities, facilities, and environmental engineering solutions. May be directly assigned to a temporary leadership role. Carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance with Corden policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A BS Degree in Chemical Engineering and 3 years of experience and demonstrated success in an Engineering function in a Pharmaceutical and/or Fine Chemicals Manufacturing environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write memos, procedures, and letters that conform to prescribed style and format. Able to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors. Ability to negotiate with internal & external clients.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to evaluate thermal oxidizer and scrubber operating performance. Ability to perform mass balances and identify correct tracking parameters for wastewater treatment plant operation. Ability to perform monitoring, automation, and separate package software controls modifications as required to promote system reliability.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
