Role Overview
The Building Lead assists the department supervisor by overseeing day-to-day activities, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring the timely completion of all production activities based on company priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety & Compliance
- Lead by example in enforcing and adhering to safety programs and policies.
- Correct safety hazards, coach unsafe behaviors, and respond to employee safety concerns.
- Understand and comply with OSHA Act regulations and OSHA CFR 1910 standards.
- Report injuries to the EHS Manager in a timely manner and assist in hazard correction and coordinating time off following work injuries.
- Supervision & Leadership
- Assist supervisor in hiring by participating in interviews and advising in candidate selection.
- Provide coaching and feedback to employees regarding performance and company policies.
- Participate in annual performance reviews and assist in performance management within the department.
- Support training programs for new hires, ensuring employees receive proper resources and feedback.
- Mentor and train employees in manufacturing processes, safety practices, and work methods.
- Serve as the "go-to" person for day-to-day department issues.
- Production & Quality Control
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials, and manufacturing instructions for team members.
- Maintain accurate records of completed assemblies and scrapped work.
- Monitor and ensure product quality in accordance with quality assurance procedures and standards.
- Ensure all manufacturing instructions are followed, and work is completed on time without constant supervision.
- Coordinate production schedules and maintain awareness of departmental status in relation to the overall production schedule.
- Team Collaboration & Conflict Resolution
- Cooperate with other departments to meet production goals and company priorities.
- Facilitate informal resolution of conflicts or disagreements within the team.
- Make recommendations for operational improvements and provide feedback on employee performance.
- Administrative Duties
- Accurately charge time in the time and attendance system to ensure accurate labor distribution and payroll.
- Ensure compliance with government regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Workplace Maintenance & Equipment Care
- Care for tools and equipment, advising maintenance when repairs are needed.
- Instruct employees to maintain a clean work area and practice good housekeeping.
- Ensure all required personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn and safety protocols are followed.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Welding experience is a plus.
- Skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and written instructions.
- Basic mathematical skills and ability to measure accurately.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Certificates, Licenses, or Training
- Supervisor training preferred.
- OSHA 10-hour certification required.

Work is performed in an industrial production area for a manufacturer of refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
