Mechanical Engineer - Fort Wayne, IN
We're looking for an experienced Data Center Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and optimize mission-critical infrastructure. This role blends technical depth, hands-on fieldwork, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver both retrofit and greenfield data center projects.
You'll serve as a mechanical subject matter expertguiding designs, reviewing contractor work, overseeing system commissioning, and ensuring the highest standards of performance, efficiency, and safety.
Must-Have Skills
5+ years in mission-critical facility design and construction, with expertise in mechanical infrastructure.
Hands-on experience with MEP systems and construction safety procedures.
Experience designing, constructing, or commissioning at least one of:
Chilled water cooling systems
Air handling systems
Fire suppression systems
Plumbing systems
Underground dry/wet utilities
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
Nice-to-Have Skills
Background in military, semiconductor, or power plant engineering projects.
Professional Engineering license or Master's degree.
Experience with mechanical cooling plants, modular assemblies, and mechanical design for production-scale builds.
Strong communication skills and eagerness to learnopen to junior candidates (2-3 years) with the right drive and aptitude.
Day to Day Responsibilities
Lead and participate in mechanical design reviews at key project milestones (30/60/90/IFC) for chilled water plants, CRAC/CRAH units, HVAC systems, plumbing, fire suppression, and fuel oil systems.
Oversee on-site installation, QA/QC inspections, and commissioning (L1-L5) of mission-critical systems.
Collaborate with electrical, structural, and controls teams to ensure seamless MEP integration.
Review and approve RFIs, submittals, and change orders; ensure alignment with codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC) and best practices.
Troubleshoot and validate mechanical systems, ensuring operational readiness and reliability.
Drive innovation in cooling technologies, system redundancy (N+1, 2N), and energy efficiency strategies.
