Idaho National Laboratory has several positions available for Senior Reactor Operators to work in our Advanced Reactor Division. This position supports INL and Reactor Vendors collaboration in design, operations support, reactor fueling, operations, and reactor removal. Our team works a rotating schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex.
TheIdaho NationalLaboratory (INL) isleadingtheNation's efforts in developmentand deployment of Micro-Reactors.Withtheestablishment oftheNationalReactor Innovation Center (NRIC) andin partnership withmultiplereactortechnology vendors INLispoisedtotakethenewgeneration of Micro-Reactorsfromthe drawingboard to reality.In support of this expansion multiplefacilities are beingre-purposed tohousethesereactors, supportingaseriesofinstallation, startup,testing,and removalactivities.Thereactorswillusecuttingedgetechnology anddesignrequiringhighly qualifiedOperatorstounderstandthereactordynamics,reactivitycontrolsystems,Balanceof Plantequipment,andoperatingsequences.Theseprojectswillbeexecutedonaccelerated timelines requiring staff to beinvolved inaspects of Design,Safety BasisDevelopment, Equipment Layout andFabrication, TrainingandProcedure Development, SystemOperabilityTesting, Reactor Fueling, Transport, Assembly, and Disassembly.
As aSenior Reactor Operator reportingto theShiftSupervisor, youareresponsible for safely directingOperations, Vendor/Subcontractor,and Maintenance personneltoexecute a broad variety of assignedtasks. Responsiblefor execution of proceduresto ensure that thelimits for the assigned reactor are adhered to,ensuringthat the safety boundariesand limits are always respected as the highest priority, while ensuringthat simultaneousexcellence is achieved in efficiency and reliability of work scope execution.
Responsibilities Include:
Accountable totheReactor Manager and/orShiftSupervisor forthe execution ofall operationsand testing of the assigned reactor project.
Ensuringfacilitycriticalitysafetycontrolsareunderstoodandimplementedduringfuel fabrication/assemblyand reactor fuelingactivities.
Actively participate in the development review and approval as assigned for preparatory procedures, site preparation plans,transport plans, installation and disassembly plans,training materials, reactor fueling, and commissioning planning for assigned micro-reactors.
Ensure reactor safetythroughthe personaloversight/operationofthe reactivity management and safe shutdown systems andthe implementationof required controls to ensurethat alloperations are conducted with the required conservatism.
Support and adherence to a strict Nuclear Safety Culture that executes all tasks safely and deliberately.Provide leadership andmentoring of staff to ensure standards of performance and Conduct ofOperations arein accordance withBEAexpectations.Ensure theprinciples of ALARA areintegrated intoallaspects of reactor assembly,fueling,operations,transport, anddisassembly activities.
Direct and oversee reactor testing,ensuring it is performed in strict conformance with Technical SafetyRequirements, FacilitySafetyAnalysis requirementsandother documents thatmakeupthe reactor Safety Authorization Basis, andother approved implementing documents, procedures and operatingmanuals.
Controlworkperformed ontheassigned reactor andfacility systems.Reviewproposed changes to reactor/facility controlling documentstoensure they are compatiblewith safe and efficient operation and other organizationalobjectives. Ensure reactor/facility activities are conducted in accordancewith approvedplans and schedulesand that plant conditionsare such that the work can be performed safely.
Maintain Senior Reactor Operator Certification. Responsible for training and certification of all operations personnel as assigned. Ensure that only certified/qualified and proficient individual operate reactor/facilityequipment and watch stations.
Provideleadership example andmentoringof staff innuclear safetyandjustculture principles, utilizingtechniques that willreinforce the expected standards of the safety culture through the organization.
Provide workdirection/oversightto shift operatingpersonnelduringreactortesting,steadystate andabnormaloperations,reactorstartups,andemergencysituations.Takerequiredactionsduring emergenciesinaccordancewith approvedEmergencyProcedures.
Coordinate and provide liaison with construction, vendor, waste and other support groups for safe, efficient, and effective installation, transport, fueling, operation, andde-mob of theassigned reactor as directed bythe Shift Supervisor.
