Operates and maintains various pieces of heavy equipment (backhoe, front end loader, lowboy truck tractor, road patcher, sweeper truck etc.) in the performance of shaving shoulders, ditching, loading and unloading material, A1 treatment, tree removal, etc. Operates and maintains complex heavy motorized equipment (paver and paint truck) in the performance of asphalt placement, leveling, strengthening, and placement of paint on primary and secondary roads throughout District Six during the treatment season. Operates and maintains a tandem or 5-yard dump truck for hauling materials such as; asphalt, rock, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris. Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance task such as; performing preventative maintenance inspection on equipment, clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repair to bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline pipes. Operates motor grader in ditching and shoulder operations, grading and machining dirt roads, driveway installation or snow and ice removal. Operates a backhoe for cleaning ditches, loading and unloading material, tree removal and debris from roadway during working hours and during "on-call" hours. Operates various pieces of equipment in snow and ice removal as necessary. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance (e.g. chain saws, weed eater, drills, jack, wrenches, shovel, rakes, tamp, lute board, air compressor, arrow board, pavement breaker, etc.,) Set up traffic control according to MUTCD Standards to warn motorists of roadwork ahead. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
