As our underground mobile maintenance mechanic, you will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work in a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. Youll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace, and your equipment. To thrive in this role, you must be able to perform equipment lubrication, field repair, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, diesel engines, and hydraulic systems. Were on a remote island, you must know how to work independently. About Us The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur dAlene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Winner of numerous safety and environmental awards, Greens Creek is seeking new team members committed to professional growth and success. Heres what you can expect in this role: Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well. Apply your mechanical aptitude in equipment maintenance and repair and complete required maintenance reports and logs.Working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home if you are not Juneau based. Departments have different schedules, you will be working a two week on/two week off schedule.Assist with welding and fabrication tasks as well changing tires on rubber tire equipment.Youll be below ground doing workplace inspections assigned each morning. Then, well rely on you to prioritize your work before you get started. 5 years minimum (heavy diesel) for mechanics Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before we start the day for your safety and the safety of your team. A team you can rely on, a team that will have your back. This position has multiple levels (which may range from level 1 up to level 5). The hourly rate offered for this overtime-eligible role will depend on the tech level.Successful applicants will be hired at the appropriate Tech level based on their job-related education, training and/or experience, and will be able to achieve higher Tech levels on-the-job if and when certain milestones are met.
