JOB DESCRIPTION: PLUMBER; APPRENTICE

SALARY SCHEDULE: SCHEDULE WIII

DEPARTMENT: MAINTENANCE

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

SAFETY-SENSITIVE: YES

POSITION SUMMARY:

The employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)

Must clear all necessary criminal and vehicular background checks

Must possess and maintain a current Oklahoma license for motor vehicles

Must be available for unscheduled, emergency call

Shall provide a reasonable method of communication during unscheduled emergency situations

Currently licensed and in good standing as an apprentice plumber with the following; Oklahoma State Department of Health Plumbing Division, City of Oklahoma City, City of Midwest City and City of Del City

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Will be required to run sewer machines using proper safety precautions

Must become proficient in the application of the International and BOCA Plumbing codes.

Must perform as part of an overall maintenance team working for the timely completion of all assigned tasks, and at times working in different departments.

Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.

Must assist in providing bacterial examination of water from various sites to County Health Department quarterly.

Must assist in providing lead and copper tests from various sites to State Department of Health semi-annually.

Regularly must work in confined spaces above or below ground level (man holes, storm sewers and ditches).

Will be required to run sewer machines using proper safety precautions

Regularly use voltmeter to test hot water heaters, dish machines, circulation pumps, ovens, steam kettles, fryolators, garbage disposals, etc., and make repairs as necessary. Employees should be able to use hand held and free-standing electric threaders.

Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.

LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.

To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee's eligibility for a varied work location will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for this change will be distributed by the employee's supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
