The NYPL Energy Team is committed to implementing energy management best practices across the NYPLs portfolio of buildings to help the City meet its ambitious emissions reductions and energy goals. NYPL is working to reduce building emissions by 49% by 2025 and 86% by 2030 (compared to 2005 levels), culminating in full decarbonization by 2050. The Energy Team works to track overall energy usage and identify energy-saving opportunities in buildings, implement energy-efficient operations and maintenance (O&M) practices, and oversee the delivery of energy efficiency retrofit projects.

The Energy Project Manager will sit within the Department of Facilities Management which is responsible for keeping all NYPL locations safe, clean, comfortable and welcoming for our patrons and staff. Working closely with the agency energy team, and in close partnership with the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Division of Energy Management (DEM), the Energy Project Manager will primarily be charged with developing and managing the implementation of energy efficiency and/or clean energy projects in City-owned buildings.

We are looking for someone we can count on to:

Own:

Coordination and completion of projects on time, within budget and scope including the initial assessment and identification of need, source funding, vendor selection and schedule management, trade coordination, and completion of final inspections.

The creation of project documentation, and reporting of project status and performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long term goals, to key stakeholders.

Completion of building audits to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.

Teach:

Train staff to identify opportunities for improvement in energy efficiency and sustainability and how to execute such measures.

Learn:

How the Facilities Department interacts with other divisions and departments

How to improve critical work functions and efficiencies in operations.

Diversification of knowledge of building systems and operations.

Improve:

The ability of NYPL to provide Library Patrons and Staff a safe and welcoming environment

Required Education & Certifications

Bachelors degree in engineering field (civil, mechanical, electrical or facilities) required

At least one of the following certifications are required: Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) or Building Operator Certification (BOC) Level 1

Required Experience

3+ years of full-time experience in energy management, facilities management, commissioning, mechanical construction project management, or construction management work on capital projects with a dollar value of at least $150,000

At least eighteen months of experience in a managerial or consultative capacity in an organization responsible for the management of construction

Required Skills

Strong understanding of building energy systems and energy efficiency technologies.

Experience with the design and construction of energy efficiency retrofit projects in existing buildings, especially diverse buildings varying in age, size, and use.

Familiarity with cost estimating, building/system commissioning, testing, adjusting, and balancing.

Familiarity with project management operations, including project planning, scope development, contractor management, design and construction management, and project close-out. Familiarity with life cycle cost analysis.

Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Building Management Systems (BMS) to support the optimization, operation, and maintenance of our building infrastructure.

Strong proficiency in MS Office software, especially Excel.

Strong organizational, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.

Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and business relationships
