The Estimator will play a critical role in the preconstruction phase by developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for complex civil construction projects. This individual will work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to analyze project documents, determine scope, perform quantity take-offs, and compile detailed estimates for bid submittals.

Key responsibilities for the Estimator - large Civil Construction
- Review and interpret civil plans, specifications, list of additions, and other bid documents
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for earthwork, piping, structures, and utility systems
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate quotes from subcontractors and material suppliers
- Develop complete cost estimates, including labor, equipment, materials, and overhead
- Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and constructability concerns
- Prepare and present bid packages for review and final submission
- Collaborate with operations and project management teams to transition awarded projects
- Maintain and update cost databases, unit pricing, and historical data
- Participate in post-bid reviews and project debriefs
- Stay current on market trends, labor rates, and construction methods related to public works
Qualifications for the Estimator - Large Civil Construction:
- 10+ years of experience as an Estimator in heavy civil, underground, or public works construction
- Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS Heavy Bid, B2W, or similar platforms
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment in civil infrastructure
- Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and civil drawings
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- Experience bidding public sector projects (municipal, county, state, or federal) is a plus
