HVAC Technician
The Town of Stratford is currently accepting applications for the position of
HVAC Technician for the Public Works Department.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is skilled heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) work involving the installation, repair and maintenance of HVAC systems.
Work involves responsibility for work on a variety of plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems and their controls. Duties include safely installing, maintaining and repairing such items as pipes, valves, drains, pumps, ducts, heating boilers and electric and pneumatic controls, as well as, auxiliary steam equipment. The work requires that employees understand plumbing, heating and air conditioning practices, methods, tools and equipment.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Installs, maintains and repairs steam and heating components such as boilers, burners, dials, traps, steam pipes and other heating equipment.
Installs, maintains and repairs ventilating and air conditioning components such as ducts and room air conditioners.
Diagnoses trouble in plumbing or heating systems; repairs and maintains a variety of related equipment.
Installs, maintains and repairs electric and pneumatic controls including solid state for burners and thermostats.
Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
Installs, maintains and repairs hot and cold water pipes, water heating tanks and other pipes and fixtures.
Maintains records and reports of supplies and equipment used.
May direct the work of assigned helpers, responds to emergency calls at all times of day or night, as required.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of plumbing, heating, ventilating and air conditioning practices, methods, tools and equipment.
Considerable knowledge of plumbing, heating, ventilating and air conditioning codes and standards of safety precautions.
Considerable ability to read engineering drawings, sketches, and other specifications necessary for HVAC system maintenance.
Good ability to lift heavy equipment and components, as required.
Good ability to plan, assign and review the work of helpers.
Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates, vendors, and contractors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school or trade school diploma or the equivalent plus five years of successful HVAC or plumbing apprentice experience in an approved State program.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid B-6 Connecticut Oil Burner license or an S1license.
Must have a valid Class 3 Connecticut Driver's License.
SALARY RANGE:
DOE - $76,220.19 - $95,276.43
