POSITION SUMMARY
Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances.
- Inspects and tests electrical lighting, power circuits and equipment.
- Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment using suitable testing instruments.
- Examines and tests elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes.
- Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other components of electrical systems and appliances.
- Renews circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring.
- Replace defective equipment parts such as gears, bushings and bearings and other related electrical parts.
- As required, estimate materials needed and record time and materials expended on each work order.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Willing to take continued education classes.
- Ability to use appropriate tools and meters to repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits.
- Ability to read blueprints, install conduit and boxes per NEC.
- Must be flexible and willing to change priorities.
- Lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls a variety of electrical materials such as cables, conduits, fixtures and equipment.
- Climb ladders, balances, stops, kneels and crouches to gain access to electrical wiring, etc.
- Near-visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision and color vision are needed in mains connections, soldering and splicing wires.
- Other mechanical skills preferred but not required.
EDUCATION
A high school diploma is required. Additional education and work experience are helpful.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Electrician will work all over the Bourbonnais campus in and out of buildings and in all weather. The electric shop is located in Tripp Maintenance Center. With regard to wage, applicants should remember that ONU is a non-profit, non-union shop. Full-time, non-exempt hourly staff, 12 months.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The starting salary ranges between $27 - $29/hour and is based on experience and education.
