Job Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and competitive bid packages for waste hauling, disposal, recycling, and equipment services. This role works closely with sales, operations, and procurement to ensure pricing models are precise, compliant, and profitable. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to balance detail with big-picture strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cost Analysis: Prepare detailed cost estimates for hauling, disposal, recycling, equipment rentals (roll-offs, compactors, containers), labor, and fuel.

  • Bid Preparation: Review bid documents, customer requirements, and RFPs to develop competitive proposals.

  • Collaboration: Work with operations, sales, and procurement teams to ensure estimates align with service capabilities and profitability goals.

  • Site Assessments: Conduct customer site visits to evaluate container placement, truck accessibility, and service feasibility.

  • Market Awareness: Monitor disposal site fees, recycling markets, and fuel/labor costs to maintain up-to-date pricing models.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and supporting documentation for reference and audit purposes.

Qualifications

  • Required:

    • Experience in estimating, cost analysis, or a related financial/operational role.

    • Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

    • Ability to review and interpret project documents, contracts, or service specifications.

    • Proficiency with Excel or other estimating/ERP software.

    • Highly organized with strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Preferred:

    • Experience in waste management, recycling, construction, or related service industries.

    • Familiarity with hauling operations, disposal/recycling methods, and local regulations.

    • Background in preparing bids or RFP responses for service contracts.
